Design for the setting

A home user may unpack, position, power, connect and maintain a product without specialist assistance. Instructions need to explain those steps, identify conditions that affect a result and show what the product does when a measurement fails.

Five points in the use journey

  1. Set-up: included parts, configuration and any account or connection needed.
  2. Measurement: placement, user action and relevant environmental conditions.
  3. Result: units, status, uncertainty and the difference between a reading and an interpretation.
  4. Problem handling: error messages, repeated measurements and routes for support.
  5. Continued use: cleaning, calibration where applicable, consumables, updates and end-of-life information.

Review a change

If an application update changes the way a result is displayed, record whether instructions, training, support scripts and evidence about user interpretation need review. A software change can alter the user experience even when the sensing hardware is unchanged.
